However, shampooing occasionally without using any conditioner or styling products to give hair a rest.

Choosing the right products for your hair

Fine or thin hair can sometimes be more delicate and could benefit from a protein enriched shampoo and conditioner formula with a light level of conditioner. These high-maintenance glamour girls achieve their looks thanks to hours with their personal stylists and an endless supply of money. But you don’t have to have the budget of a celebrity to have fabulous hair. Here are some tips.

* When you get your hair colour done, stay within two or three shades of your natural colour. This will extend the life of your colour because your roots will be less noticeable as your hair grows out.

* Touch up roots with a lipstick-type product that you simply roll on small areas of grey, like the temple area or a part line. For darker hair, waterproof mascara in brown or black will do the job.

* Frame your face with a few accent lights instead of all-over hair painting. Less colour means less maintenance.

* Blend colour and maintain its tone with a colour-boosting enhancement treatment. This can be done with natural plant pigments that stain hair strands. This costs less than a hair-colour service.

Daily Care Q&A

Q. Rubbing also stimulates your scalp and brings out the oils which make your hair look and feel greasy.

Q. What Type Of Pillowcase Is Best For Your Hair And Skin?

A. Silk and satin are the best pillowcase for your hair and skin to sleep on. You will not wake up with messy bed hair because it is so smooth. It is also great for your skin because it doesn't pull and stretch on it.

  Q. Rubber bands will tear your hair and destroy the hair shaft, leaving breakage and split ends. Watch out for the elastics with the metal clip, they are the ones that will catch in your hair and cause damage. The best elastics are the scrunch type ones which have cloth covering them completely.

Q. It will tame even the wildest of static. You can even use a bit of hair moisturiser or apply some serum through your hair.

How can you save money on hair care during economic downturn?

During this great economy recession period, everyone is trying to save money. How can we cut down the cost of pampering our hair? Here we list the top ways you can save on your hair, and still look good.

1. T-section it
When you get your roots color touched up, consider having just your T-section (across the forehead and along your part) done. It may not be a permanent solution but it is enough to cover the most noticeable areas until you can afford the rest. Apply the same tip when you don't have time to spare at the salon.

2. Skip the treatment
Ever heard these words muttered by your hairdresser? "Sweetie, your hair needs a treatment. We can get it done in 10 minutes." The only thing she forgot to add is that, "And that'll be an extra $30." Don't wait until you're at the cashier to find this out. If they're charging for it, consider a home treatment instead.

3. Go junior
Most salons charge less if trainees cut or color your hair. It's true that having a less-experienced stylist can be a little nerve-racking, but if you're having a single, block, all-over color, or some simple foils it's pretty hard for them to mess up. Just bear in mind that all trainees are supervised.

4. Just say no
Don't feel obliged to buy the hair products your hairdresser recommends. They are not going to be offended if you say no, and you may be able to buy a on-the-counter brand for less. Some hairdressers receive commission, bonuses or incentives to sell these products to their clients. Just like they want you to re-book in six weeks' time to ensure you come back, it's a great way for them to make extra money.

Holiday Hair

When winter comes, a lot of us choose to go on a holiday to escape from the cold weather. Where are the popular spots? Florida, California, Mexico...and what do we do? The Beach!!! However, excess sun, sand, salt, chlorine and sweat all play havoc with our locks, leaving us with the dreaded holiday hair.

The best thing you can do about holiday hair is to make sure you pack a good shampoo and conditioner, use a slightly more moisturizing conditioner when on holiday. Avoid the complimentary shampoos found in many hotels as they are usually far too strong and stringent.

Many hair experts also suggest that a rinse with tomato juice after swimming in the pool will combat hair that’s already showing signs of discoloration.

As well as shampooing and conditioning after a dip in the ocean, rinse your hair in fresh water before swimming, as wet hair offers some protection. Even better, pop on conditioner and don a swimming cap – that way, you can protect and treat your hair at the same time.

Love your hair

This may sound obvious, but it often isn't to a lot of people. Hair has energy and spirit just like every other part of your body and it responds better to kindness and love than neglect and anger. If you hate your hair and ignore it, it will be like a flower that you don't water. It will wilt and die. Show your hair total love and respect and it will blossom and grow and be beautiful.

Accept your hair for what it is

If your hair is thin, wavy, curly or stick straight, try to accept that and not torture it by using strong chemicals that may damage it just to straighten it or curl it. If you decide that you want your hair to be different, make the changes as kindly as possible to your hair. Condition your hair before you straighten or perm it and make sure that you use the best products and get the best advice for your hair.

Knowledge is power

Learn as much as you can about your hair. Visit hair care websites, read articles that you see and flip through the magazines while you are waiting in line at the grocery store checkout. Observe what other people do that have gorgeous hair and ask them for advice. People love to share knowledge.

Listen To Your Hairs Needs

If you notice a change in texture or condition, take time to evaluate what may be happening and make adjustments. Your hair, like your body, sends you signals about what it needs. Is it drier or oilier or frizzier? Is it breaking or falling out or acting unusual? Get to know your hair and understand what it needs.

Techniques in combing your hair

"Just comb through the hair from the top to the end, techniques?" If that's what you are thinking, I am afraid you are already having a lot of hair breakage and unhealthy hair. Then move up to start from the side of the ears.

Finally, start from the root to the hair end. To create layers, brush several times backwards.

Tips:

Wherever the comb cannot go through, don't force it. Hair easily becomes dry during this time of year from the indoor heating and the cold weather outside. Proper preventative steps need to be taken during this seasons to ensure that your hair does not get damaged.

Wear a scarf, hat or cap to protect your hair from the cold and wind, but make sure that it's not so tight that it will restrict circulation in your scalp.Use a conditioner daily.

Avoid taking hot showers or washing your hair in hot water, use warm water instead, the heat can dry out and/or damage your hair and skin. Once you have your hair moist, lock in the moisture by running your hair through cold water, this will also give your hair an extra shine.

Don't go outside with your hair wet, you risk breakage; your hair will freeze and break if it's cold enough outside.

Limit your use of "hot" items on your hair such as a blow dryers and curling irons. If you must, use a leave in conditioner before.

Look for hair products that have the word "Replenish" on it, it is made to moisturize your hair.

Try using a dry shampoo, a good example is baby powder. Simply sprinkle some onto your hair and use a comb to comb it off.

Tips on shampooing and conditioning

1. It is important to wash your hair because shampooing removes dirt, dead skin cells, hair oils and hair products. How often? The general rule is: for oily hair you should wash every day or every other day and for dry hair only wash 2-3 times a week.

2. Buy shampoos & conditioners that match your hair type, trial and error is the best way to find out what specific hair product is best for your hair. Try rotating the shampoo and conditioner periodically, your hair responds differently to different products.

3. Shower with warm water only, hot water can dry or irritate the scalp.

4. When shampooing, rinse your hair before applying any shampoo to remove any dust and dirt, then apply the shampoo onto your scalp and massage it gently with your finger tips and work your way outwards. After you are done make sure that you thoroughly rinse your hair to remove any shampoo residue that may be left. Shampoo residue may dry your scalp/hair and attract dirt. It is recommended that you only lather once to avoid drying your hair out, if you have oily hair, lathering again may stimulate your oil glands to create even more oil than normal.

5. Use a conditioner after shampooing, it'll moisturize your hair, give it extra protection, add shine, reduce static, and makes it easier to untangle. Try to spread conditioner evenly through out your hair and leave it in for a couple of minutes before rinsing your hair. Apply conditioner at about an inch away from the scalp, the roots of your hair contain the most oils and usually don't need the extra conditioning.

6. Use a leave in conditioner, it'll hydrate and protect your hair. A leave in conditioner on your hair is the equivalent of moisturizer on your face.

7. Be gentle when shampooing and conditioning, don't use excessive force to rub your hair or scratch your scalp, remember hair is the most vulnerable when wet.

Find the hair style which fits you

The way you do your hair must flatter your face and enhance your best features. Not all hairstyle will look good on you unless it fits the shape of your face. Let's look at the different hairstyles that are considered most flattering for each shape of face.
An oval face. Congratulations! You got the perfect shape because almost any hairstyle will go with oval. You will do well with having layers near your chin or cheekbones to draw attention to them. However, try to avoid hairstyles that add volumes to the top of your head, it will make your face look longer.

A long face. If you have a long face, you should create the illusion of width to balance it out. You can add width to your face by doing your hair with long, side-swept bangs or chin-length bobs, curls and waves that frame the face. Avoid letting your hair grow extremely long or having your hair cut extremely short. Such extreme hairstyles will take the width from your face and emphasize its length.

A round face. People with round faces need to take some of the width and bulk off by adding length. If your face is round you need to create the illusion of length by having your hair cut just below your chin, or in graduated layers. Do not do your hair in short, one-length, blunt cuts, as it will only draw attention to the roundness of your face.

A square face. Having a square face means having an angular jaw. The hairstyle trick with having a square face is drawing attention away from that jaw. This is done by putting texture to your hair. Short curls do exactly this, as well as long layers that start just below the jawline. Avoid having your hair cut in one-length bobs or wear bangs that are cut bluntly. It will only emphasize the squareness of your face.

A heart-shaped face. If you have a heart-shaped face, you could bring focus to your eyes by wearing side-swept bangs, a fringe on your brow or long layers at the top. Or you could let your hair grow and have it done with layers that touch your cheekbones.

Hair care tips for Curly Hair

This holiday season the luxurious curls are back! Curly hair tends be dryer, more brittle and prone to frizzing, so it requires more care than straight hair. No matter if you are born with it or you go for a perm, there are some hair care tips I want to share with you.

Limit shampooing your hair to less than 3 times a week, shampoo can take away the natural oils from your hair resulting in dryness.

Don't forget conditioning every time after you shampoo to re-moisturize your hair.

Use a leave-in conditioner or conditioner sealer daily or every other day.

Use a shampoo and conditioner that is specifically geared towards curly hair or chemically-damaged hair if you had a perm.

To detangle your hair, have your hair moist and conditioned in the shower(which will prevent breakage), use your fingers to begin the untangling then finish with a wide toothed comb starting from the end going up finishing at the root of the hair. Then rinse with water and try to retain half of the conditioner in your hair. If you try to detangle your hair when it's dry, you will cause it to frizz.

Let your hair air-dry to reduce frizzing, avoid brushing and using a towel to dry your hair. If you need to dry your hair quickly, blot with a towel but without rubbing.

Avoid using narrow toothed combs and brushes, use wide-toothed combs which cause less breakage and frizzing.

Deep condition your hair using hair mask at least once a month to re-moisturize your scalp and hair.

Use a small amount of styling product with moisturizing ingredients to keep your hair from frizzing when your hair is still slightly moist and then gently style with your finger.

Hair Dye Help

Surprisingly hair dyeing has been in practice for centuries. With modern techniques and products it's now easier than ever to change or retain your hair color. However, there are some keep points to remember during our hair dyeing process.
First-timer

A lot of women jump into hair dye with both feet and are left with no option but to wait for the embarrassing results to grow out. If you're dying your hair for the first time, it's safer to start with a semi permanent color which will wash out after a few washes.

Home dyeing preparation

Home hair dye kits are very easy to use, but you should still take care to keep the dye on your hair and your hair only. Always wear gloves when dying your hair and wrap an old towel around your shoulders. You should also smear a little Vaseline around your hairline to prevent changing your skin color.

Hiding Grey Hair

If your hair is less than 20% grey, it's best to use a semi-permanent color that is one shade lighter than your natural color to allow the grey to blend right in. If your hair is more grey, permanent dye is the only way to completely cover the unwanted colour. But remember, looking subtle is the key. Jet black, brilliant blonde or any other solid colour can look very unnatural on women of a certain age.

Fixing mistakes

If you're not happy with your new hair color, go to your hairdressers where they have a variety of techniques to fix color oops.

Treat Your Color Well

Post-color treatment is very important. In order to preserve the effort you have made, use the right products on your new hair color. Use a color-enhancing or color-lock shampoo and conditioner which deposits tiny amounts of color onto your hair, therefore making you look great for longer.

Yuko System Phiten Lock In Color Shampoo

Root Touch-up
Hair color should last up to 2 months before your roots begin to show. Instead of dyeing the whole thing again, just touch-up the roots with one of the on-the-counter home kits.

Hair Care Tips

This week we will share with you some basic hair care tips when we go swimming, drying and brushing our hair.

Swimming

It's important to wet your hair before entering a pool so your hair will soak up the clean water instead of the chlorinated water.

Swimming cap can protect your hair from chlorinated water, if you choose not to wear a cap make sure you shampoo and condition your hair right after you are done swimming.

Drying

Hot air can be damaging to your hair so use the cool setting on a hair dryer.

Don't leave the blowdryer in one spot for more than a few seconds, keep it moving and at a good distance away from your hair.

To speed up the drying process, pat your hair dry with a towel before blowdry.

Gently use your fingers to untangle any knots while your hair is drying.

Combing/Brushing

Use a brush with bristles made from natural animal hairs, it is softer and more flexible which means less damage will be done to your hair.

Wet hair is most fragile so avoid brushing or combing when it's wet, otherwise it will cause breakage. Wait until your hair is almost dry before brushing it.

Use brushes/combs with widely spaced bristles and smooth tips. Sharp tooth combs can cause split ends, and scratch your scalp.

To keep your brushes and combs clean, wash them weekly using soap or shampoo.

Comb your hair to remove any tangles before brushing it. Begin by combing your hair gently at the ends to get any tangles out and work your way up to the base of your hair.

Always brush/comb with a downwards stroke.

Avoid using plastic brushes/combs which create static electricity

Don't overwork your hair

A woman's hair is one her greatest assets.

There is so much you can do with what sits on top of your head, and there are so many products available to help you do it.

However, it's important to remember that your hair is a living, breathing part of you.

It is not immune from damage and it certainly won't last forever.

Too much dying, brushing, straightening and general styling can have a terrible effect on hair,

In many cases women are left with permanently thin, limp, lifeless hair.

So be nice to your lovely hair - avoid using too many products and don't style your hair too harshly.

Correct the mistakes

Have you ever felt like there's something really off with your hair, but you just can't identify what it is? There are some common errors in hairstyling that we sometimes overlook.

Cluelessly cutting your own hair. When there appears to be one strange and straggly piece that emerges odder than any other piece, you are tempted to trim it -- Stop! It'll all straighten out in the shower. If you don't have time for a shower, just dampen your hair and evenly distribute a bit of styling pomade.

Product abuse. It is sometimes difficult to understand the language on many products' labels, Words like "de-frizz," "smooth out" "keep it sleek" or "make it shine" can confuse consumers. The result of using the wrong products can be limp or greasy-looking hair. The only way to avoid it is to stop trial-and-error purchases or ask your hairstylist for recommendations.

Being misguidedly generous with products. Another product no-no that can lead to flat, dead-looking hair is applying too much product. Remember, unless stated otherwise, most hair products are concentrated, so a little goes a long way. Never forget you can always add more later.

Compartmentalizing. You just see the front section of your hair, but never forget other people sees all of it. Many of us spend too much time getting the hair around our faces perfect, to the detriment of our overall look. That's why hair stylists always show us the back for a full service.

Mistakenly choosing an impractical style. Before you choose a hairstyle, understand this: After you walk out of the salon, it's up to you to maintain that style. Therefore take into account your hair's texture, length and health, and how much time you want to spend styling it each day.

Ignoring professional advices. A lot of us bring pictures and communicate clearly to the hairstylist, but you must also pay attention to what your hairstylist says. In order for a hairstylist to do the best job, you must be open to his expertise and trust him.

Miscalculating your color choice. Not all colors appear beautiful on us. When coloring or highlighting your hair, carefully consider which shades will flatter your skin tone. Bring a photo of the color you want to your colorist and discuss the tones and hues of the shade and how it will look on you.

Letting your eyebrows clash with your hair color. Brow color looks best when it complements hair color, and as a general benchmark, brows should be about a half to a full shade lighter than the darkest part of your hair.

Sexify your hair

Make-up and fashion alone is not enough for a real sexy look, hair is the sexiest accessory any woman has. Put a little non-oily pomade cream on both hands and then lightly rubbed onto hair to create instant sheen and texture.

Flip it. This technique works great with medium length hair cut like a long bob. Add a little depth by brushing up the ends to create a flip. A dab of styling gel will hold it. Coaxing just sections of your hair — in the back and on the sides — into a new direction will break up the uniformity of your style, giving you a suddenly modern and fresh appearance.

Create some curls. Long wavy hair is still very in and very sexy. If you've got the length, get a couple of sponge rollers. Spray and let them set while you do your makeup. Ten minutes later, you'll walk out the door with relaxed, natural, sexy waves.

Sweep it up. A classic romantic look that can be achieved with almost any length of hair, the upsweep — offset by a few loose tendrils around the face — adds instant sex appeal. Pull your hair back, twist it and fasten. Smooth the sides with a little hairspray, and then pull out a few wispy tendrils around your face. If they aren't naturally curly, wrap them around a pencil for a few seconds. Believe it or not, the curls will hold.

Go to the side. Crave for a superfast sexy hair look? Give your hair a quick brush, part it, spray it and go.

How to make Fine hair feel Full and Bouncy?

A lot of people are having problems with with fine hair that has little or no body. Let's share some do's and don'ts to keep your hair looking great all day long.

1. The right haircut. Shorter hair can make the finest texture look full. If your hair is fine but has a bit of weight, a chin-length bob works best. The longest fine hair should be cut just above the shoulder with barely-there long layers.

ISH Ionic Rescue Shampoo and Conditoning Sealer Liter Duo

2. Light shampoo and conditioner. Apply conditioner to hair ends only to avoid weighing down fine hair. Be sure to thoroughly rinse after shampooing and conditioning.

3. Hair color is the secret. Semi-permanent hair color coats the hair and permanent hair color is deposited in the shaft of the hair, adding body to the hair. Highlights can give texture that adds volume to hair.

Paul Mitchell Freeze And Shine Super Spray
4. Styling products that add volume without weighing hair down. Root lifts, mousses and hair sprays are the best bet for fine hair, but apply to hair roots only. This will keep hair end light, full and touchable.

5. Blow dry. The simplest way to add volume is to tilt your head over and blow dry hair. Use a brush to raise roots from scalp to add additional lift.

Hair Makeunders

If you take more than 15 minutes to style your hair, you probably need a hair make-under. Let me share some tips below.

Color Choice

Coloring your hair black is the biggest beauty challenge. It is very difficult to remove and is always flat and covering all the natural nuances of your color. Dark Brown is a good choice as it softens your features to give you a younger look.

Farouk CHI Ionic Permanent Shine Hair Color 10 B Extra Light Beige Blonde

Platinum Blond is another equally difficult option. It washes out your complexion and makes your face disappear, so make-up is a must. White blond color also causes the most damaged to your hair.

Bright yellow is another hard-to-wear color for most skin tones. It looks artificial and makes everyone look older. A more subtle shade with softer nuances of color is more flattering and natural looking.

The last no-no of hair color is screaming red. The brighter the shade of red, the easier it wears out. This is a color for the Catch-Twenty-Two only. The most flattering red shades are coppers that are found in nature.

Olive and Honey Haircare

Having luxuriant hair does not only mean beauty, but also a sign of being healthy and young. However during the recent years I have seen a lot of ladies having weak hair condition: revealing the scalp under sunlight, damaged hair due to long-term mishandled or frequent chemical treatment. To say goodbye to these problems, let’s have a look at below tips.

Refreshing

Lack of cleaning, use of too oily conditioner and styling product residues are the main reasons for flat hair. If hair follicles get clogged, it can even lead to hair loss. Under this situation remember not to use 2-in-1 shampoo.

Darphin’s Volume Shampoo uses Chinese Honey Locust and Ginseng essence to strengthen the hair, gently clean hair follicles and increase blood circulation, suitable for daily use.

Oily conditioner can add burden to the hair, making styled hair last shorter and look sparser.

Try skipping conditioner, blow hair to half-dry and spray on Kiehl’s Panthenol Protein Hair Conditioner, eliminating the chance of hair follicle clog. It is professional hair stylists’ favorite spray which can gives moisture to split-ends and dry hair.

Moisturizing

Every models are expose to extensive amount of blow-dry and flat-ironing, making the hair very weak and dry. I have heard some of them come up with an ultimate hair care method – never shampoo, and let styling products and hair oil to “protect” the hair, then have a regular once a month hair cut. For those without professional stylist to take care of your hair every day, please do not try above method!

In fact, if we choose a shampoo with hydrating function, dry hair will not be damaged easily.

Apivita’s Propoline honey shampoo can clean and at the same time strength the hair. Then use Kiehl’s Olive Oil Conditioner for a deep treatment.
